2024 SCHOLASTIC COACH OF THE YEAR
Mike McDonald | Girl’s Basketball, Archbishop Wood High School
After taking over Archbishop Wood’s program at the end of the 2015 season, Coach McDonald has meticulously guided the Vikings to three Philadelphia Catholic League Championships, ten PIAA District Crowns and six PIAA State Titles.
This past February, Coach McDonald notched his 200th career victory on his way to leading the Lady Vikings to a 54-52 Philadelphia Catholic League Championship victory after a grueling double-overtime clash against Archbishop Carroll.
His team continued their success in the PIAA 5A state tournament, where his team defeated Cathedral Prep 37-27 en route to Archbishop Wood’s fourth consecutive state title.
This win marked Coach McDonald’s sixth state championship victory and 9 total by the Archbishop Wood lady Vikings, which marked a PA state record of most state titles won by a program. This season, he was also named state Coach of the Year for a fifth time!
